Hana Machovska was a protege of Frantisek Zemek and both used Mstisov to produce much of their best work. Although Machovska’s designs show their the influence of her mentor particularly in the use of colour she was an independent creative force in her own right. The ‘Romana’ series which she designed in 1960 is her most famous series which features vases, bowls and dishes in various sizes. The vase is especially famous and more easy to source than this splendid large bowl which is hard to find these days. It features her trademark intensity of colour and an imaginative use of organic lines to create a truly satisfying form. In excellent order with only a few friction scratches to the base as is to be expected from a piece more than fifty years old.
